Program by Matthew Winterbottom

Matthew Winterbottom will talk about his work on a ground-breaking exhibition and research project that will challenge widely held perceptions that the Victorian age was dark and gloomy. Paintings, sculptures, furniture, textiles, and jewellery by major Victorian artists and designers will show that this was in fact one of the most colourful periods in British history. As well as reviving the rich colours of the ancient and medieval past of the Middle East, India, China and Japan, artists and designers embraced the new vivid hues which technological and scientific advances made possible.
